This
style has the same general characteristics as a straight saxony,
but the key difference is that the fibers are kinked or twisted
in different directions. Because of this, they reflect the light
differently, which means that when you brush your hand across
the surface, you don't notice as much of a difference in color.
Textured saxonies help to mask footprints and vacuum marks,
making them a popular choice for busy households.
Frieze
carpet is a type of cut pile carpet which is made from twisted
fibers. The individual curling fibers in the carpet create a
slightly informal look which hides a multitude of sins. For this
reason, this type of carpet is sometimes recommended for high
traffic areas, as it will not show footprints and dirt as
readily as some other styles of carpet.
Multi
level loop pile is a carpet made from loops of yarn at different
heights. Its construction is similar to level loop pile, but
instead of creating a carpet with an even and smooth surface,
this carpet creates a texture with different heights of the
fibers. The textured appearance can be very attractive and
therefore is causing this carpet to gain in popularity with
consumers.
Level Loop carpets are some of the newest and most popular
styles of carpeting in the market today. This style generally
lasts a long time in high-traffic areas and is an excellent
choice for for areas that require stain protection also. It is
also ideally suited for commercial applications.
A
cut and loop is a style of carpet that is constructed exactly
how it sounds: some of the carpet fibers are looped and some of
the fibers are cut to form a pile. This allows the manufacturer
to create a design in the carpet, whether in a geometric or
abstract fashion. This allows for some really cool patterned
designs.
Velvet
carpet is soft, like the fabric for which it's named. The pile
is short, uniform, and dense.
The carpet has a matte finish, giving it an understated appeal.
Velvet pile generally holds up well but, like plush, its uniform
surface exposes indentations and tracks.
Made
from smooth cut piles, saxony carpet is most commonly referred
to as plush carpet and is what often comes to mind when we think
of traditional wall-to-wall carpet in the home. Thousands of
perfectly even, straight, solid-colored strands of fiber give
this carpet its thick, soft feel.
Types of Carpet:
Some of our Manufacturers:
Carpet usually comes in 12′ widths, and is sold by the square yard, which is equivalent to an area 3 feet by 3 feet. Waste is usually figured at 10%.
Enter the dimensions of your room (in feet and inches) in our calculator
below, it will give results in square feet and yards. You can alter the waste
setting to suit.
Fiber Types:
Wool:
Wool has excellent soil hiding capabilities. Wool will not
exhibit or show soil as much as other fibers. Wool is very
strong, elastic and resilient. Wool face yarn in a
well-constructed carpet will stand up to the heaviest
traffic and still look beautiful. Good Absorbency – This
means that wool reacts well to a number of dye types and
techniques.
Polyester:
Polyester offers exceptional softness and color clarity, and
is naturally stain and fade resistant. Although polyester is
not as strong and durable as nylon, carpets made of
polyester perform very well. Polyester styles are good
choices for low - to medium - traffic settings such as
bedrooms and offer great value for your home.
Polypropylene:
Unlike other fiber types, polypropylene will not absorb
water, so it is solution dyed. Solution dyeing is a process
in which color is actually built into the fiber when it is
formed making the color an inherent part that cannot be
removed from the fiber. This means the color will not fade,
even when exposed to intense sunlight, bleaches, atmospheric
contaminants, or other harsh chemicals or elements.
Polypropylene is normally used in loop pile construction.
Nylon:
In overall performance characteristics, nylon is the most
versatile of all fibers, providing excellent durability and
flexibility in creating a variety of carpet styles. It is
the most commonly used carpet fiber and can be found in a
wide range of both cut pile and loop pile styles. Nylon also
has great color flexibility and uniformity, and many nylon
yarn systems are exceptionally soft.
